I won’t take the needle can’t handle the spoon
I’d swim in the blues ’til I drown
Pills take the pain but the high fades too soon
Like lovin’ you
Lovin you, I’ll be headin’ for the higher ground
So often I think of our spot by the stream
That ran with a burgundy wine
Your blue eyed caress every word was a dream
And you were mine
You were mine
’Til he showed up to put you back down
Tell me, why let him shatter the moon?
He was blind to its glow
Yet your shadow still follows a graceful white dove
The breeze used to blow with a rosier tune
One of love
But I’m not gonna steal or beg for your kiss
You won’t see me just hangin’ around
There’s nothing left here but a half sunken ship
I’ll be gone before the rains come down
Yeah good luck to yourself and those pretty red lips
I’m moving to the higher ground
Abraham Lincoln
Shot in '65
150 years gone by
His truth did not survive
We are not strangers
Our differences are trite
You're trying to divide us
So we'll continue to fight
Mama taught me kindness
Daddy drew the line
We've all learned our lessons
But you've run out of time
On with your lying
Don't you hold your tongue
Your words will defy you
When the righteous bell is rung
Do I find, peace of mind
Yes I do
‘Cause I was born to be with you
Wondrously, love can be
So I knew
That I was born to be with you
By your side, satisfied
Through and through
‘Cause I was born to be with you
Oh my love, the time has arrived
To watch it all from above and leave us behind you
I’m supposed to believe you’ve done your part
Y’know you’ll see you live on in my heart, oh I love you
Oh for thirty-five years you gave me the moon and the sea
So here’s to thirty-five more, my Anna Marie
New York City you found my love
Or something that I lacked thereof
Yet your luxuries and neon glove
Suited times forgone
Since she's gone on
My lonely hollow city
You led her to me with your breeze
Through tall buildings one fall eve
And as your leaves fell so did she
But you revealed your wile
And we lost beguile
My broken hollow city
And though we were twined
I left you behind
‘cause I'm a fool for her not for you
And as time fades away
So do your lights in my mind
And though we were twined
I left you behind
‘cause I'm a fool for her not for you
And as time fades away
So do your lights in my mind
Over yonder stands little Maggie
With a dram glass in her hands
She’s drinking away her troubles
While courting another man
Oh how can I ever stand it
To see them two blue eyes
A shining in the moonlight
Like two diamonds in the sky
Pretty flowers were made for blooming
Pretty stars were made to shine
Pretty women were made for loving
Little Maggie was made for mine
Last time a saw little Maggie
She was sitting on the banks of the sea
With a forty-four around her
And a banjo on her knee
I’m going down to the station
With my suitcase in my hand
I’m going to leave this country
I’m a going to some far and distance land
Go away, go away, little Maggie
Go and do the best you can
I'll get me another woman
You can get you another man
Mike Barnett, a fiddle prodigy who received a GRAMMY® nod for his 2017 Compass Records release, PORTRAITS IN FIDDLES, returns with + 1.
The new album includes 14 duets, featuring Eddie Barbash, Maeve Gilchrist, Alex Hargreaves, Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz, Dominick Leslie, Jeff Picker, Ric Robertson, Ricky Skaggs, Nat Smith, Molly Tuttle, Cory Walker, and Stash Wyslouch.
Originally slated for release in 2020, + 1 was delayed when Mike suffered a brain aneurysm last summer at his Nashville home. Friends and fellow musicians rallied, and Mike's fellow Kentucky Thunder band-mate, Jeff Picker, started a GoFundMe to assist Mike and his wife, violinist Annalise Ohse. Mike spent last fall at a rehabilitation facility in Atlanta, and currently Mike and Annalise are in an intensive rehabilitation program in Chicago where he is working to "reconnect his brain to his fingers." While he continues his recovery, Mike is very excited about getting + 1 into the hands of the fans and community that have offered him so much support over the past 6 months.

It's just impeccably done. And, it doesn't have vocals, which means it's easier to listen while I work. :)
Last One on the Line is just amazing. I would love to hear more from this group. meatnordrink
I don't listen to much country music, so I don't really know where this one lands, but I find it has some pretty good tunes and definitively good musicianship. Some of the songs mights soound a bit cheesy, but I enjoy this album overall nonetheless. The tunes which are more sounding like ballads get my preference, such as Northern Babe, and North Country Blues. Thibaut Devigne
